Funeral Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform various tasks to arrange and direct funeral services, such as coordinating transportation of body to mortuary, interviewing family and other authorized persons to arrange the details of mortuary services, including selecting pallbearers, aiding with the selection of religious rites, and providing transportation for mourners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Obtain information needed to complete legal documents, such as death certificates and burial permits.
• Consult with families and friends of the deceased to arrange funeral details, such as obituary notice, casket selection, or plans for services.
• Perform embalming duties and oversee in the preparation and care of the remains of people who have died.
• Contact cemeteries to schedule the opening and closing of graves.
• Removed deceased remains from place of death.
• Arrange for clergy members to perform needed services.
• Provide information on funeral service options, products, or merchandise and maintain casket display area.
• Offer counsel and comfort to bereaved families and friends.
• Maintain financial records order merchandise or repair accounts.
• Plan and coordinate funerals, burials, or cremations, including arranging details such as floral delivery and the time and place of services.
• Close caskets and lead funeral cortège to church or burial sites.
• Direct preparations and shipment of bodies for out-of-state burial.
• Inform survivors of benefits for which they may be eligible.
• Provide or arrange transportation between sites for the remains, mourners, pallbearers, clergy and family.
• Additional duties, as assigned.

Physical Demands
The employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach and lift with arms, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to frequently lift more than 100 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The employee is working in an environment that is occasionally in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), with fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and infectious diseases. The employee may also work in outdoor weather conditions, with extreme cold or extreme heat.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

Years of Experience: None, will train right candidate
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
License, Certificate or Registration: Funeral Director Certification required
